Clinical Skills Course
Eligible Study Years
4th, 5th, and 6th year medical students
Schedule
90-minute lessons
Held once every second to third week (depending on the number of registered students)
Students will be allocated to small groups (maximum of 6)
Syllabus
The course focuses on teaching and practicing essential clinical skills:
Taking basic observations (HR, temperature, BP, oxygen saturation), using ICU monitor
Venepuncture, cannulations, setting up an IV infusion
USG basics
ECG basics
Varia - blood sugar measurement, blood type determination, urinary catheter insertion, ...
Teaching methodology:
Brief seminars introducing key concepts and procedural steps
Demonstration by the instructor
Stepwise student participation: observe → assist → perform independently under supervision
Skills practiced on patients or volunteer students wherever appropriate
Emphasis will be placed on patient safety, correct technique, and building confidence.
Requirements for Credit
Attendance: Students must attend all sessions.
Up to 10% absence is tolerated.
Course Goals
By the end of the course, students should:
Be confident in performing the above procedures independently and safely
Have the opportunity to obtain signatures for the relevant skills in their Logbooks
